BONNET FIELDS

INTERACTIVE FOREST OF SEAGRASS

“Bonnet Fields” is a site-specific installation focusing on wayfinding techniques to create unique experiences. These graceful hydro-thermal flowers belong to the Deep-Sea, where they live in darkness. No light penetrates into the vast darkness, yet these other-worldly organisms thrive. These mystical entities are part of a thriving forest of emerging bonnets on the ocean floor. Each bonnet is exploding with vivid colors, washing and splashing on all that is near. The viewer is invited to explore, play and discover the space that these majestic beings inhabit.

These supernatural creatures use data and sensors to drive the immersive experience. “Bonnet Fields” uses various forms of interaction, focusing on multiple levels of connectivity. Each bonnet is capable of initiating picturesque light arrays that are fresh and unique. Together, these flourishing bonnets guide us through this meadow, using unique path-finding techniques. Patrons are drawn and encouraged to wander through an enveloping forest of color.

The “Bonnet Field” Project is fabricated from a wide variety of materials. The structure itself is primarily built from Marine-Grade Stainless Steel. The sculpture is designed to have a multi-tiered petal system that is not only beautiful during the day but captivating at night. “Bonnet Field” is engineered for hardware accessibility and low-maintenance.
